The March 21 Chenango Valley Board of Education meeting included some notable recognitions.
Winter 2017-2018 student athletes who were State qualifying participants were recognized, including:
The Chenango Valley Cheerleading Team who were Section IV champions, STAC champions, and participants in the New York State Public High School Athletic Association (NYSPHSAA) 2018 Cheerleading Championships.
Michael Godbay who was a Section IV champion in the long jump and participated in the NYSPHSAA 2018 Indoor Track & Field Championships.
Michael Schultz who was a Section IV champion in the 200 Individual medley and 100 butterfly, and participated in the NYSPHSAA 2018 Boys Swimming & Diving Championships.
Elaine Hamilton who was a member of the Section IV All-Star Bowling Team and participated in the NYSPHSAA 2018 Bowling Championships.
In addition, Chenango Valley High School teacher and coach Bob Zanot was recognized for accomplishing his 300th career win with Chenango Valley boys basketball this past season.
After these recognitions, CV Superintendent Dr. David Gill announced to the meeting's attendees that Utica National Insurance Group had presented the district a “2018 School Safety Excellence Award” on March 20 for continued efforts in working to keep the school environment safe. A $500 check for use in furthering safety efforts was also presented to the district as part of the award.
At the board meeting, Chenango Valley High School senior James Wyatt also discussed his role with the Broome County Student Advisory Board. This program provides young individuals the opportunity to participate and share input in local government.
