Two teams of Chenango Valley High School students stepped out of the classroom and into nature to compete in the 2018 Southern Tier Regional Envirothon on April 30.

The hands-on educational competition took place at the Tioga County Sportsmen’s Association in Owego. Chenango Valley’s “Wilderness Warriors” and “The CV Hellbenders” were among teams from a dozen schools around the region who participated in the event.

Each team took part in five stations that focused on the topics of wildlife, environmental issues, soils, forestry and aquatics. Beforehand, CV Envirothon advisor Mr. Michael Breed helped students to review various environmental topics to prepare for the event.

Students had a great time putting their skills and knowledge to the test. The CV teams showed great improvement this year and finished 15th and 18th place out of more than 30 teams! Awesome job to all participants!
