The Chenango Valley Saxophone Ensemble played for residents of Good Shepherd Fairview Home on May 9. Nursing home residents learned about the different members of the saxophone family and enjoyed some afternoon classical music.
The ensemble’s favorite moment was when they played a short hymn entitled “Near My God to Thee.” One resident chuckled to himself and jokingly said, “They played this on Titanic! I was on the Titanic!” The CV musicians appreciated his sense of humor!
The group also met a resident who graduated from CV High School many years ago. Her granddaughter, who graduated from CV in 2016, was in attendance as well. Both were thrilled to see our students doing a bit of community service.
In short, the audience was very receptive and friendly. They asked our students questions after the performance and told some jokes. The students and residents all left smiling!
The Chenango Valley Saxophone Ensemble looks forward to returning with holiday music in the near future!
