Chenango Valley’s 2018 “Warrior Academy” and “Elementary Summer STEAM” programs provided effective exercises and fun learning activities on July 11.
July 11 “Warrior Academy” sessions included workouts such as change of direction drills, chase drills, and one-on-one racing. Students also worked on deadlifting, push-ups, and pull-ups.
The theme of the first week of “Warrior Academy” is nutrition. Students are learning about eating habits that can help them to stay healthy both physically and mentally.
On July 11, first through second grade “CV Elementary Summer STEAM” students worked on multiple engaging experiments and demonstrations focused around the water cycle. One experiment included students creating “rain clouds” in Ziploc bags. Sunlight helped to form condensation in the bags for this fun demonstration. Students also used their artistic skills to create beautiful water cycle diagrams, among other engaging projects!
Among their exciting tasks of the day, third through fourth grade “CV Elementary Summer STEAM” students took part in a Soil Erosion Challenge. Students worked in architectural landscape engineering teams with a “$1,000 budget” to complete a purchase order of materials such as soil, water, and Play-Doh. Students designed a detailed plan and used specific items from their purchase order to stop erosion in a paint tray prototype during a simulated rain storm.
Fifth through sixth grade students continued their work as “Animal Avengers” on July 11. Among their duties, students are in the process of creating prosthetic parts for an animal character in need, using a 3D printer. Working in teams, they are also creating picture book stories about how the part helped out their animal character. In addition, students took part in activities including designing with 3D pens, working on the creation of a multi-media animal art installation, and building animals with LEGOs.
