CV Summer Programs Build Skills and Knowledge
Students continued to work on strengthening their knowledge and skills, both mentally and physically, in CV Summer Programs during the week of July 30 through August 2.

CV Elementary Summer STEAM
The second session of CV Elementary Summer STEAM participants completed their two-week program with some exciting activities!

Participants in the grade 1-2 group took part in experiments including bubble blowing, tornado in a jar, and handmade mini parachutes that helped them to learn more about wind. Among other activities, students learned about volcanoes and chemical reactions, with a baking soda and vinegar experiment that erupted a room full of excitement. The grade 1-2 group also joined the grade 5-6 group for activities in the Chenango Valley Middle School/High School pool area on August 1.

While grade 1-2 students swam in the pool, grade 5-6 participants continued work as “Animal Avengers” and, participating in teams, tried to get a stuffed animal across a small pool without using their hands! During the week, grade 5-6 students also took part in additional “Animal Avengers” tasks, including the completion of 3D printing prosthetic parts for an animal character in need, along with a story describing how the part helped their animal character.

On August 2, participants in grades 3-6 took part in “Animal Riddle Relays” in the Chenango Valley High School gymnasium. This activity encouraged both movement and team collaboration as students engaged in a variety of physical activities to help them solve nature-related riddles. During the week, the grade 3-4 group also took part in a seed dispersal challenge using items such as balloons, rubber bands, straws, and pipe cleaners. After working in teams for the initial seed dispersal challenge, student also had the chance to construct their own individual seed dispersal creations out of materials including recyclable items.

Awesome job to all students who took part in this year’s CV Elementary Summer STEAM Program!

Warrior Academy
In the fourth week of Warrior Academy, participants learned more about leadership skills. Exercises tied in all of the techniques that participants have learned so far. Participants were also able to play some fun games including kickball on August 2! The fifth and final week of Warrior Academy will focus on retesting to see the growth from students’ hard work throughout the program.
