Students Show Honor, Patriotism in Veterans Day Assemblies
At a Veterans Day assembly on November 9, students at Port Dickinson Elementary showed appreciation to all of our nation’s veterans -- as well as more than 30 invited veterans who attended the morning program (including mothers, fathers, aunts, uncles, grandmothers and grandfathers). The children sang and signed a patriotic song, read a patriotic poem, and gave the veterans special thank you cards -- along with handshakes and hugs.

Chenango Bridge Elementary held their Veterans Day assembly on November 9 as well.  As part of the program, students spoke on the history and meaning of Veterans Day.  CB’s student chorus, led by Miss DeGroff, sang patriotic songs. Each child wore red poppies donated by the American Legion Post 1194. Mr. Tyler West, an Army veteran, shared his story with students and told them just how much the simple words of “thank you” can truly mean. CB Student Council members also continued the school’s tradition of placing small American flags across CBE’s front lawn to display respect for those who have served our country.

At each assembly, members of the American Legion Post 1194 also presented the schools with a “Certificate of Appreciation.”

Thank you to all who helped make these programs possible -- and thank you, especially, to our veterans for their service.
