Middle School Team Building/Bus Drills
middle school students begin teamwork drawing challenge
students exit from back of the bus for bus drill

CV Social Worker Mrs. Hubenthal, along with guidance counselors Mrs. Samson and Mrs. Lally, spent time with each middle school physical education class in the beginning of the school year.

They worked with students to review the Olweus Bullying Prevention Rules:
  • Rule 1: We will not bully others.
  • Rule 2: We will try to help students who are bullied.
  • Rule 3: We will try to include students who are left out.
  • Rule 4: If we know that somebody is being bullied, we will tell an adult at school and an adult at home.
Students also learned about the role of the guidance office and discussed ways to help each other out.

In addition, they took part in team-building activities including a game of "lava" in groups and working in teams to write a positive message using multiple strands of duct tape tied to only one marker.  Students discovered that when it comes to a challenge, working as a positive team can help you find the best solution.

On the same days they reviewed the importance of teamwork, middle school students reviewed another important subject... the significance of bus safety.  Students took part in bus drills and went over topics including proper usage of seat belts and where to find emergency exits, as well as how to use them.  At the end of their bus drill, students were able to practice exiting from the rear emergency door.
