|  | Mr. Gerald Abbey is currently employed as Director of Facilities & Operations for Union-Endicott School District. Mr. Abbey has also served in this same capacity at several other school districts in Broome County. The needs of Gerald’s growing family led Gerald, over the course of ten years, to obtain three Associates degrees at Broome Community College including Accounting, Business Administration, and Financial Services.
Mr. Abbey and his wife, Ann Marie, have four daughters, Maria (CV Class of ’06), Alexandra (Class of ’08), Laura (Class of ’11) and Christina, a member of Chenango Valley’s Class of 2013.
Mr. Abbey’s interest in community service is fueled by his parents’ active involvement in local service organizations when he was a student. The value of education as well as the importance of higher education for all students has been reinforced by Gerald’s passion for learning. One of Mr. Abbey’s favorite quotes is, ‘The more you know, the more you know you don’t know.’ Mr. Abbey believes the Board of Education serves as a voice for the children and keeps this in mind when reviewing school budgets, policies and goals for Chenango Valley Central School District. |

|  | Mr. DeGennaro is currently employed as the district manager of American Food & Vending. James also serves as a village trustee in Port Dickinson, and is a member of the zoning board in the town of Dickinson. Mr. DeGennaro lives with his wife Monice, and twin daughters Dara and Ranata (CV Class of ’11), in the village of Port Dickinson. In his spare time, Mr. DeGennaro is an avid sports fan and gardener. While his twin daughters were attending Chenango Valley, Mr. DeGennaro was also involved in the PTSA and Booster Club. Mr. DeGennaro was originally approached in 2006 to complete an un-expired term for the Chenango Valley Board of Education. He welcomed the challenge and opportunity to take an active role in shaping the future of the school district. Mr. DeGennaro is also very committed along with his fellow school board members to ensure that our students receive the best possible education at Chenango Valley. |
|  | Mr. Elliott has been a Social Studies Teacher at Windsor Middle School since 1982. As a lifelong Binghamton resident, Stuart graduated with Chenango Valley’s Class of 1972. He obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree from SUNY Binghamton and a Masters in Education at the College of William & Mary. Mr. Elliott student taught at CV and is grateful for the assistance he received from some very encouraging teacher mentors.
Mr. Elliott and his wife, Patricia, live in Chenango Bridge with their four children (Abigail, CV Class of 2009), Hanna (9th grade), Ethan (7th grade), and Grace, a third grader at Port Dickinson Elementary, all of whom have been well served by the excellent staff at Chenango Valley.
In his spare time, Mr. Elliott enjoys weekend 5K road races and watching his children participate in softball, basketball, and cross country meets. He also enjoys walking at Otsiningo Park while listening to $50 worth of Warren Zevon iTunes (Requiescat in pace).
Education is Mr. Elliott’s passion and it brings him great satisfaction to contribute to the success of the school district and its students. Although Mr. Elliott has worked for almost thirty years in a neighboring school district, in his heart he will always be a Warrior. |
|  | Mr. Hussar owns his own insurance agency, John P. Hussar Insurance Agency, in Johnson City and has served in the insurance industry for the past 30 years. During that time, John has experienced many facets of the insurance business including; claims, risk management, sales management, and business management. Throughout his career, Mr. Hussar has received numerous awards and recognitions for outstanding achievements in the insurance industry. Because of his achievement, Mr. Hussar is a well-respected member of the insurance community and has been invited to speak to various organizations including The Landlord Forum, The Association for Deaf Citizens, television and radio interviews, and the Professional Speaker Presentations offered by retired Chenango Valley health teacher and owner of Scutt’s Driving Academy, Mr. Gary Scutt, Mr. Hussar and his wife Jan have two children, Jessica and Jonathan, who are CV graduates. Jan is an educator at a neighboring school district. Over the years, Mr. Hussar has served on numerous public committees. John believes in always putting the district’s children first, forward and progressive thinking, proactive approaches to each situation and new ideas, while acting in a fiscally responsible manner and reaching out to the community as a whole. |
|  | Mr. Terrence M. Kane is the Director of State and Community Relations at Binghamton University. He is also the owner of Chenango Commons Management and Golf Course. Over the course of his career, Terry has served as Binghamton University’s Associate Director of Economic Development and Community Outreach. He was also the Deputy County Executive in Broome County from 1999-2005 and served as Deputy Regional Director at Empire State Development Corporation. Mr. Kane is a University of Washington graduate with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science and Business Administration. Additionally, he obtained an Associates degree with concentration in Business Administration from Saddleback Community College, California.
Mr. Kane and his wife, Barbara, have three children. Their son, Michael, graduated from Chenango Valley in 2007 and is completing his undergraduate work at Hobart College. Their daughter, Shannon, (CV Class of 2009) attends Binghamton University. Their son, Charlie, is an eighth grader at the Middle School.
Mr. Kane ran for the Chenango Valley School Board because he believes that we each have an obligation to contribute, when we can, to the success of our community. Terry has served on many community boards and continues to volunteer in athletic coaching positions, while participating regularly with numerous community organizations. Mr. Kane feels his knowledge and experience in municipal management, education and the private sector will allow him to better contribute to the school district as a Board member. He believes that Chenango Valley is a very strong school district with caring administrators, faculty and staff who offer our students many opportunities for educational advancement, and he would like to keep it that way despite current fiscal constraints. |
|  | Ms. Kaufman has been employed for over 25 years by New York State Electric & Gas, and is currently an Analyst for NYSEG/RG&E/CMP Gas Supply. Prior to working in the gas area, Ms. Kaufman worked in Customer Service as a Customer Representative for approximately 18 years. Before working at NYSEG, Ms.Kaufman was employed by IBM Endicott and was a Notary Public. Ms. Kaufman was born and raised in Akron, New York. She haslived in the Chenango Valley School District for over 15 years and has been residing in Morningside Heights since 2001. Lynn’s daughter, Janel (CV Class of 2010) spent her childhood participating in many activities through the Chenango Bridge and Nimmonsburg Youth Associations and continued her sporting activities at Chenango Valley High School. As an active parent of a student who took advantage of the district’s offerings, Ms. Kaufman chaperoned and attended numerous scholastic, extracurricular, and sporting activities. Currently, Janel attends a State University. She is scheduled to graduate in May of 2013 and hopes to pursue a career in law. In her spare time, Ms. Kaufman enjoys crafts, decorative painting and spending time with her dogs.
Ms. Kaufman is currently on her second five-year term. Since her election to the board, she has served on several Board of Education committees, including Policy, Budget, Audit & Fiscal Oversight, and Education Excellence. Ms. Kaufman also chaired the Technology and BOE Communication and Information committees. Ms. Kaufman thanks you for the opportunity to serve as a member of the Chenango Valley Board of Education. |
|  | Mr. Steve Randall is entering his third year as a Chenango Valley Board of Education member and finds his participation on the Board to be interesting and rewarding, even in these difficult economic times. Mr. Randall has served as an employee of Broome County Social Services for the past 28 years and currently holds the position of Supervisor in Family Services. Steve resides in Port Dickinson with his wife, Eve, his son, Ian (CV Class of 2010), and daughter, Jade. Mr. Randall is a member of Chenango Valley’s Class of 1975 and graduated from both Broome Community College (Class of 1997), and Southampton College (Class of 1980). Steve has an active interest in sports, having played both semi-pro football with the TC Jets and rugby with the Binghamton Barbarians. In his free time, Mr. Randall serves as a referee for lacrosse and rugby. |
|  | Mr. Eric Rifenbury is currently employed at Summit Chase Apartments. Prior to this position, Eric worked in construction as well as Boscov’s Department Store and RHM Marketing, Inc.
Mr. Rifenbury is a 1990 graduate of Chenango Valley and served in the U.S. Army from 1990-1992. He enjoys traveling, camping, and wine tours. Although Eric has lived in a number of states across the country, he always seems to come back to Warrior country. |
|  | Mrs. Roberts is currently employed in the Town of Fenton as a court clerk. In her position she has daily contact with the public relating to issues that can often be detrimental to individuals and families alike. Maureen’s day is a success when a problem is solved or headway is made to make a difference in someone’s life.
As a 1983 graduate of Chenango Valley, Mrs. Roberts fully understands the concept of gaining an education, as well as the social and physical benefits of extracurricular activities. Maureen walked the same halls as today’s students and great appreciates the positive impact many teachers and administrators have had on her life. Mrs. Roberts and her husband are lifelong residents of the district and currently reside in Hillcrest with their three children.
Mrs. Roberts has thoroughly enjoyed being a Board of Education member since 2009 and hopes her common sense and simple approach has been an asset to the District. Mrs. Roberts is grateful for the opportunity to share her views and opinions in an impartial manner to benefit all who live in our fine community. Since Maureen understands the reality and hardship of poor economic times, she is dedicated to exploring options for the school district and will continue to support shared services when feasible. Mrs. Roberts will continue to work hard to ensure that Chenango Valley’s students receive the best possible education balanced with a budget that has been generously supported by our taxpayers.
