Port Dickinson Elementary School is our elementary school for 635 students, in Pre-Kindergarten through 3rd Grade. We provide a full range of instruction for our students. Our students also participate in art, library, music, physical education, and computers weekly. Our English Language Arts and Mathematics programs provide our staff the tools needed to teach all students at varied ability levels. Our school has a core reading and mathematics series which is aligned with New York State Learning Standards. We also offer programs to support the various strengths and needs of our student population. These include Reading Support, Math Support, Academic Intervention Services (AIS), and Accelerated Reader.
At Port Dickinson Elementary School, we believe it is important for our students to start their day with breakfast so they may reach their peek performance level. Therefore, our cafeteria staff provides a complete breakfast program for all our students.
Our staff also believes it is important to develop our students' social and emotional well-being. We use the KELSO conflict resolution program. This program allows our students to use strategies and make choices when dealing with situations in the classroom, at specials, or on the playground. Our school psychologist and social worker are also pivotal in assisting our students.
We also offer a variety of opportunities for parents that enable them to be part of their child's success in school. Our Parent/Teacher Association (PTA) is a wonderful way to network and share ideas to promote events and programs such as dances, movie nights, PARP, and our annual Author Visit. Please call our school for more information.
In conjunction with the Binghamton Boys & Girls Club, Port Dickinson Elementary has an after school program called "Fun Club." Specific program information can be obtained by calling 723-7404.
